To calculate wellbeing, employees completed a survey that analysed for the six dimensions of wellbeing in the workplace: work environment, mental and physical health, financial security, interpersonal security, work-life balance, and fulfillment.
In 2015, WP Engine opened our first global office in London as a physical representation of our desire to expand our team of WordPress specialists and better serve our customers globally. Since then, we’ve worked hard to create a workplace...
Are there old shortcodes lingering around, bulking up your code? Do you still have widgets installed that you don’t use anymore? Perhaps your dashboard is full of comment spam. Maybe you need better analytics software or want to start reaching more audiences by adding more localized content
This has been the editor experience in WordPress for over a decade now. This status quo isn’t good enough. We shouldn’t have to work around or get used to the finicky nature of the editor, it should just be better. This is why blocks were created. Blocks are predictable, tactile, and can be
We’re excited about all of these developments—the new styles we’ll be incorporating into future Genesis themes, the added ease and functionality we’ll be able to provide for Gutenberg, and the addition of Mike and John to our team. But most of all, we’re looking forward to the
What Will Cryptocurrency Be Like in 10 Years?
Cryptocurrency is arguably the single most significant invention of our lifetime. In the very near future, I believe we’ll see financial borders dissolve almost completely. This international currency will allow us to transact in seconds and remove current geographical limitations and
Banking is the Next Personal Assistant
Daily, banks manage to overcome a litany of internal and external obstacles — all while providing service with a smile. Long before anyone used online data and social media accounts to track people, banks could collect that sort of insight by following the money. Banks have access to a treasure

How to use Screening Questions to Select the Right Participants for User Research
If you need to recruit people who are highly familiar with a certain topic, open-ended questions can elicit authentic details that tell you whether respondents have the relevant experience. If you ask people how often they play online games, it’s easy for someone who plays a few times a year to

Eartracking: A New UX-Research Method
Note the difference between the two sense–mind hypotheses: the eyes might look at anything that is merely interesting, while the ears react only at unexpected stimuli that are potentially of high interest or importance. This difference is obviously caused by the evolutionary background for
The Four Dimensions of Tone of Voice
Using product-reaction testing to see if your users choose tone words that correspond to your target tone profile. For example, let’s say you want your users to view your brand as funny but respectful. If users choose “humorous” to describe your content, you could consider that it matches
Defeated By a Dialog Box
Upon further experimentation, I discovered another way of getting rid of the options box: uncheck the checkbox marked "Show options dialog." This, of course, completely violates the design rules for checkboxes and radio buttons , which are not supposed to have any immediate effect when they are
Tabs, Used Right
Simplest GUI widgets are the building blocks for most functionality on the web, but it's rare to find sites that use all the dialog controls correctly. Even something as simple as radio buttons and checkboxes are incorrectly used half the time. And let's not even get started on drop-down menus
Progress Indicators Make a Slow System Less Insufferable
It can also be helpful to add additional clarity for the user by including text that explains why the user is waiting (e.g., “Loading comments…”). One note of caution though: spinning gears can be dangerous for data that is loaded from a server, simply because the connectivity quality is
Contextual Menus: Delivering Relevant Tools for Tasks
Don’t make users scan through a long list of disorganized commands. To help users focus on the most relevant options, place the ones used most often at the top. Because people scan lists from top to bottom, place seldomly used commands low down in the menu. Let users decide which option best

After the Buy Button in E-Commerce
I recently discussed our report on the usability of confirmation email with a marketing manager. She said that while it was interesting research, it wasn't really relevant to her marketing team because confirmation messages are sent out only after customers have placed their orders. It's
Seamlessness in the Omnichannel User Experience
Backend technologies are only one aspect of the changes required behind the scene. Other constraints could be caused by separate fulfillment processes, disjointed organizational hierarchies and working teams, or old procedures that no longer work in the new multichannel world. Creating a seamless
Preventing User Errors: Avoiding Unconscious Slips
Some tasks really do require users to type very detailed or precise information, but forcing people to provide this information in a very specific format can be at odds with good usability practices: If you are asking users to input numerical information into a form, be flexible, and format that
Microinteractions in User Experience
Progress indicators, a subcategory of microinteractions, let users know that the system is still working to respond to their actions. They can show a specific or undetermined wait time and may include components like linear or circular progress indicators. Such elements encourage the user to remain
Preventing User Errors: Avoiding Conscious Mistakes
A lot of user mistakes (but not slips) happen when users do not get enough help in bridging these two gulfs, and the designers’ mental model and interpretation of how the system should work does not match users’ mental models. In those situations, users either form an action plan that is

Voting and governance through tokenization has been done through Distributed Autonomous Organizations (DAOs). While in an ideal world the voting rights would work very similar to standard governance in companies, but there are again no regulations. This may prove to be an issue in specific

Digital Marketing Trends to Drop and Trends to Follow
These “blasting” messages aren’t viewed as being in good taste, and if anything, is a great way to get yourself/your brand blocked. Subtlety is key, and it’s important to put effort into nurturing relationships instead of just making sure as many eyeballs see the message as

Finally, Hathaway sees this as a unique opportunity for the United States to work with countries around the world, and with organizations on an extremely local level. “We cannot succeed if our government works in isolation,” she added. It requires “leading from the top” from

Overuse of Overlays: How to Avoid Misusing Lightboxes
One strategy is to present overlays during times when users are less likely to be immersed in a task. For example, many applications use overlays for introductory instructions or tips for using an interface. Users may have a specific task in mind when launching an application, but this intrusion at
Best Practices for Homepage Links on websites
In most cases, using different labels for the home links to the various homepages (subsites vs. official site) will help. As with all links, provide as much information scent as needed to help users disambiguate the meaning of the link. In some situations, an abbreviated URL (e.g
Fancy Formatting, Fancy Words = Looks Like a Promotion = Ignored
Sadly, in this case, neither search, nor navigation, nor the Population Finder led the majority of users to the correct answer. Indeed, search was particularly bad on this site. One user said, "I know where I can probably find it faster: Google," and promptly abandoned the official Census Bureau
